Why Add Oats To A Smoothie?

Oats are an excellent addition to your morning smoothies! They add a really nice thickening texture and a TON of nutrition benefits.

Oats are a whole grain complex carbohydrate most well-known for their high fibre content. They’re particularly high in soluble fibre, which is known to help:

  • slow digestion, increasing feelings of fullness/satiety (which may help promote a healthy weight)
  • lower LDL and total cholesterol levels
  • improve glycemic (blood sugar) control
  • promote the growth of good bacteria in the gut
  • regulate bowel movements

They’re also a great source of different micronutrients, including:

  • manganese
  • phosphorus
  • magnesium
  • copper
  • iron
  • zinc
  • thiamin
  • folate
  • pantothenic acid

Oats even pack in a decent amount of plant-based protein – about 6 grams per half cup.

How to make a frozen strawberry smoothie

You’ll notice that I use frozen strawberries in this recipe. I love frozen fruit in smoothies for a few reasons. They’re often more affordable, especially when it’s not peak strawberry season. But more importantly, they add frosty thickness to this smoothie without needing to add ice!

Ice tends to make smoothies watery, and never seems to break down all the way in a blender. Using frozen strawberries fixes this problem and keeps the smoothie full of delicious fruity flavor!


Components for Strawberry Smoothies:

Strawberries: The standard fixing! I love using new strawberries, yet frozen strawberries are a decision. Wipe out strawberry tops to shield the stunning pink tone.

Coconut Milk: My #1 base giving this smoothie a tropical flavor. See underneath for various decisions.

Bananas: A staple component for certain, smoothies, gives a fair smooth surface.

Pineapple: More tropical flavor for this scrumptious treat and the frozen pieces fill in as a delectable “ice” so this smoothie is full stacked with flavor!

The best technique to Make a Strawberry Smoothie:

Merge the aggregate of your trimmings in your blender.

Frozen strawberries turn out fantastic for smoothies so you can value strawberry smoothies the entire year. Using frozen normal item in your smoothies helps keep them chilled and thick. In case we have additional natural item or a watchman reap of berries, we habitually store them in cooler safe packs to make a rapid smoothie one more day.


Fresh vs frozen strawberries

2. Hull the strawberries using either a knife or strawberry huller.

3. Place the strawberries on a baking tray, making sure each berry doesn’t touch.

4. Freeze for at least an hour.

5. Place frozen strawberries in a resealable freezer bag and store in the freezer for up to 12 months.

This strawberry smoothie recipe can be made with fresh or frozen strawberries. If you aren’t using a high powered blender, then make sure to thaw the berries slightly before blending.


Super Simple Strawberry Peach Smoothie

Here&rsquos a testament to how delicious these strawberry peach smoothies are. The other day Graeme and I were about to head out for some geocaching, and we were both hungry but didn&rsquot want to take time to make dinner first. There was caching to be had, goshdarnit! So I figured I&rsquod grab us a little snack.

I&rsquod made this batch of smoothies the day before, and even though they weren&rsquot fresh out the blender they were still peachy and strawberry-riffic and totally delicious. Like lip-smacking delicious. YummmmMMM!

I thought I&rsquod offer Graeme some, even though he&rsquos pretty skeptical about most food he&rsquos offered, particularly if fresh fruit and veggies are involved.

Notice how I said I thought I&rsquod offer? I didn&rsquot want to offer. I wanted all this strawberry peach deliciousness for myself.

I hand him the glass and ask if he&rsquod like to try it. He does try it &ndash without asking me what&rsquos in it! &ndash and then proceeded to drink the whole thing.

And then he said he loved it&hellipthis beverage made of fruit. Fruit! That grows on trees! This is Graeme we&rsquore talking about! I couldn&rsquot even be bitter, although for a second I was because I thought we were going to share. This smoothie clearly has supernatural powers of deliciousness.

I&rsquove made up a new word to describe it: refreshious. The act of being refreshious is having refreshiousness. This smoothie is refreshious, and full of refreshiousness. And it&rsquos so incredibly blasted simple to make!

You just cut up some strawberries and peaches, skin and all, and freeze them. Then chuck them into a blender or food processor with a little juice, maple syrup and your milk of choice. My milk of choice this time was some leftover coconut milk I&rsquod saved from these fabulous no-churn homemade ice creams I keep making. Here&rsquos the lemon one if you want to check it out. Don&rsquot tell peach, but lemon is secretly my favorite.

But okay, I&rsquom wandering. See, you don&rsquot even need to arrange the fruit in a single layer or none of that. Bung it into a waxed paper lined pan and you&rsquore set.

There&rsquos usually a six degrees of leftovers going on with my recipes. This time I had leftover peaches from last week&rsquos peach ice cream I wanted to use, and then I went to the store and saw flats of strawberries on sale for $1.50! And I suddenly knew I wanted peach and strawberry smoothies. I keep reading all these delicious smoothie recipes and getting all jelly because I don&rsquot have smoothie refreshiousness in my life. Stop that and just make a smoothie. I&rsquom better now.

I added a little orange juice to help bring out the peach flavor. I think of orange juice as kinda like salt for peaches. It just helps them bloom into full peach flavorosity. And some maple syrup too, for sweetness. These are so good I could start every single morning with one, and the fruity carbs and fiber and vitamins make me feel like an on-point clarity machine. And even Graeme loves them.
